Sodium sulfite and Neutralex effectively reducedformalin concentrations during initial testing. Therefore, bioassays were conducted to determine thechronic toxicity of each neutralizer–formalin reactionproduct, as well as the toxicity of 25 mg formalin/Lwithout a neutralizer. Fifty percent of the sodiumsulfite–formalin reaction product had no observedeffect on the 7-d survival of C. dubia; this was thehighest concentration that had no adverse effects on C.dubia survival (Table 3). No conclusion could be maderegarding the NOEC or LOEC for the Neutralex–formalin product because the lowest concentrationtested (6.25% of the Neutralex–formalin product)resulted in significantly more mortalities than thecontrol (P , 0.05). Chronic toxicity testing of untreated formalin in hatchery water resulted in a NOECof 50%, or 12.5 mg formalin/L.婴儿学步车
